Onboarding Information
Get ready for your service year at City Year Chicago!
If you have been offered a position with City Year Chicago, and have accepted/confirmed, congratulations! Check out the information below, about what to expect during the on-boarding process for the 2023-2024 service year.
Plan to AttenD an In person registration Date
City Year Chicago Confirmed Corps Members must attend a mandatory in-person registration to verify identification and eligibility documents in-person.
Federal and AmeriCorps regulations require City Year to verify identification and eligibility documents in-person. Therefore, in order to remain compliant with those regulations we cannot host registration virtually for first-year AmeriCorps members. The Registration Dates will minimize in-person interaction and will limit group sizes to ensure proper COVID safety protocols. Read more about safety precautions we are taking for registration days, on our COVID FAQs page, which will be updated with current info as we get closer to Registration.
Upcoming Registration Dates:
for first year Corps Members starting on July 31st
Tentatively: July 19th, 20th, & 25th,
time TBD
CY Office: 303 E Wacker, Suite 2750
more info to come….
Start on this now! Make sure you have the required employment verification documents
For registration day, you'll need to bring three identity verification documents in order to complete your on-boarding:

OR
Government Issued Photo ID + Social Security Card + Birth Certificate
see image below:
If you do not have all three of these documents, you need to order them as soon as possible so that you can on-board to the program. Reach out to Daliah Silver at dsilver@cityyear.org if you have questions about required identity documents.
join the 2023-2024 Discord group
There is a private Discord Group for all incoming confirmed City Year Chicago corps members. It's our online community for you to get to know your fellow corps members and receive important updates before the year starts. We host live panels with current members, and post recordings of info-sessions that we host here in the office for those that might not have been able to make it. Reach out to Ines Brookens at ibrookens@cityyear.org for the link!

While you are eligible to earn a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Pass (in exchange for service hours through our CTA partnership) during your service year, you won’t receive the pass until the middle of September. You are responsible for your transit costs during the month of August (a CTA card for the month costs $100).
You’ll also be applying for food stamps but in the meantime, you'll have to purchase your own groceries for the first couple of weeks as it takes some time to process your application.
Lastly, there are some upfront costs when you lease an apartment. Typically when you sign a lease in Chicago, you’ll need to pay the first month’s rent and security deposit (which is an entire month’s rent) or a nonrefundable move-in fee (should be 1/2 month’s rent).
