What You Can Expect from City Year Chicago

• Monthly Confirmed Member Engagement Newsletters

• Monthly touch-points with your Service Year Adviser and other staff members.

• Opportunities to attend Interest Nights or Virtual Events to learn more about City Year Chicago’s service model and experience

  • A private Discord group to engage with other incoming corps members or ask questions!

Expectations of Confirmed AmeriCorps Members To better understand your service

• Attend webinars, events or town halls when possible

• Join Discord Group!

• Familiarize yourself with City Year Chicago’s website

• Plan your housing early!

  • Begin research on neighborhoods you want to live in

  • Be proactive in searching for roommates

• Build a budget for your move to Chicago and start saving towards that goal

To prepare for service in Chicago Public Schools

• Sign up and attend a Registration Day (coming soon)

• Get a TB test

• Complete all required background checks (City Year, AmeriCorps, and CPS background check process)

• Purchase your own black pants and black shoes

• Gather unexpired eligibility documents (social security card, passport, government ID, birth certificate)

To be ready to serve with an open heart and open mind

• Be committed full-time to City Year from first day of service (including training) until graduation date

• Prepare your body & mind for 10-hour service days starting in August

• Keep an open mind and flexible attitude about what your service will look like

• Reflect on professional development and career goals for upcoming service year

• Celebrate the diversity of people, ideas and cultures around us and be committed to growing yourself
